Network Administration

Quick Links to Topics:

Network route settings are kept in the CommServe® database and pushed to clients and MediaAgents. The firewall configuration file (FwConfig.txt) is located in the following folder: \install\commvault\ContentStore\base.

Push Network Configuration

Right-click the computer | All Tasks | Push Network Configuration

Once all network route settings have been configured, the Summary tab displays the output information which is pushed to the CommCell® components.

The configuration is pushed using one of the three following methods:

  1. Client services started. The client will communicate with the CommServe® server which will push out network route settings.
  2. When Data Interface Pairs (DIPs) are configured it will automatically push network route settings.
  3. Network route configurations can manually be pushed to client groups or clients by right-clicking on the component, selecting All Tasks, and then Push Network Configuration.

The summary tab

1 - From the Network Route Configuration tab, click the Summary subtab.

2 - Detailed information is displayed in the window.

To push network routes

1 - Right-click the computer | All Tasks |  Push Network Configuration.

2 - Click Continue to push the network routes.

3 - Click OK on the result window.

Tip: Correcting network route misconfigurations

If you misconfigured and pushed network routes and now a client cannot communicate with the CommServe® server, there are two actions that can resolve this situation. First, try to delete the FWConfig.txt file on the client and recycle Commvault services. If it does not work, copy the content of the Summary tab of the client from the CommCell® browser to the FWConfig.txt file on the client. Next, recycle the services.

Roaming Users Protection

A frequent problem faced by the IT team is the data protection of mobile users. Today, many users work on important documents or files directly from their laptops. Often these users rarely connect via VPN, which prevents the synchronization of their data.
Commvault® software makes it easy to protect sensitive data from mobile users, as soon as they connect to the internet, without even having to use VPN. To do this, the necessary servers in the DMZ will be put to task to facilitate communication, data transfer and access to the self-service console, named 'Webconsole'. For more information on how to setup the Webconsole, refer to the Commvault Online Documentation.
