The Job Controller is the most effective tool for managing and troubleshooting all active jobs within the CommCell environment. Regardless of which method is used to initiate a job (schedule, on demand or script) the job appears in the Job Controller.

Use Job Controller Options

The following actions can be performed from the Job Controller:

  • View job details
  • Change job priority
  • Apply job controller filters
  • View events
  • View logs
  • Add a job alert

The Pause/Resume/Kill options are available when right-clicking on an individual job, selecting multiple jobs or by using the Multi-Job Control option.

Work with Job Controller Fields

The Job Controller is completely customizable through the following actions:

  • Move a field – Click and drag the field to the desired location in the Job Controller
  • Resize the field – Click the outer edge of the field and drag to the desired size
  • Sort the field – Click on the field and an arrow on the right side appears. You can sort in order or reverse order for the field
  • Add/remove field – Fields can be added and removed by using the menu arrow in the upper-right corner

Add/Remove Fields

Select Chevron (double-down arrow in the upper-right corner) | choose columns | select desired column
The following fields can be added to the Job Controller:

  • Number of Readers in use – displays the number of streams per job that are being used for the operation. Note that the 'readers in use' field only displays a number during the backup phase.
  • Current throughput – displays the current throughput in gigabytes (GB) per hour.
  • Priority – displays the job priority for the operation.

Update Job Update Status

Configuration menu | Click Job Management applet | Job Updates tab

To reduce communication traffic during normal operations, the job status in the Job Controller updates every five minutes. This value is increased or decreased in the Job Management applet in the Control Panel.
Unless required for specific job type, it is recommended NOT to decrease these values as it could have a negative impact on backup or restore performance.

In certain situations where job status must be closely monitored, the update intervals can be modified. You can customize the status updates for different agents within the CommCell® environment.
